DirveX - Prestudy

The Swedish model for collaborating around innovation within the smart mobility domain has attracted a lot of international interest. DriveX aims at validating whether that model can be exported to other countries to generate business value for the Swedish export industry, to showcase a professional, competent Swedish profile and, of course, to facilitate the design of sustainable mobility in other parts of the world. In this effort, initially aimed at Singapore and Dubai, we will include technical solutions in the shape of Drive Sweden´s Innovation Cloud, the transparent Swedish triple-helix way of working, and selected contributions from Swedish companies and other organizations.

Purpose and goal

The pre-study has mapped local mobility ecosystems in Singapore and Dubai, and confirmed that both markets’ relative strengths and development areas are complementary to those in Sweden. The conclusions enabled the project to tailor a modular pilot project to be presented at the ITS World Congress in Singapore and the final of the Autonomous Driving Challenge in Dubai, both in October 2019. The pilot includes integrated offers from eight members of Drive Sweden, and its relevance has been confirmed by key actors in respective local market (LTA in Singapore and RTA in Dubai).

Expected results and effects

The pre-study´s outcome is very positive. During the study, some ten additional organizations have expressed interest in participating in future work. As the pilot´s design emphasizes openness and ecosystem integration, it is feasible and straightforward to involve additional actors, which also further strengthens the pilot. In order to ensure realisation of sought targets for DriveX, it is now critical to secure financing of phase 1, so that involved actors who stand ready for the pilot (and have mobilised local customers and partners) may to strike while the iron is hot.

Planned approach and implementation

The pre-study has detailed "the Swedish innovation model" and objectives for its export, mapped relevant aspects of local conditions, as well as developed a model and implementation plan for a pilot study. The pilot study was documented and anchored with relevant parties in Sweden and in Dubai and Singapore (which were pre-selected target markets). Involved players are now ready to implement the pilot and have mobilized local customers and partners for the purpose.
