Autonomous city buses
(2017-2020) The project works to make existing electrified city buses more efficient by using automated features such as automatic bus stop docking, autonomous depot driving and bus trains.
The project is part of KRABAT, a part of the Government’s innovation partnership program, “The next generation’s travel and transport,” and is funded in part by Vinnova through Drive Sweden.
The objective is to build theoretical and practical knowledge by developing automated driving of electrified buses. Together with various key stakeholders, the potential and effects of different user cases are evaluated, tested and demonstrated.
The project is focusing on three features:
- Bus stop docking - Effective and safe bus stops (in run and positioning).
- Bus train - During peak hours connect two buses to operate in a train – increase passengers capacity, no extended time for intersections and stops.
- Depot process - Autonomous relocation of buses within a bus depot.
