Friday, October 16, 2020

On the 7th of October the 4th High Level EU meeting for member states, the Commission and selected industry organizations on connected and automated transports was arranged. Invited to the meeting was Drive Sweden, represented by its chairman Jan Hellåker, who got the opportunity to add important program values to the meeting conclusions.

The purpose of the meeting was to speed up European collaboration for promoting transport automation. Finland chaired the High Level Meeting on Connected and Automated Driving (HLM CAD) in 2020 and three central themes were identified; a human-oriented automation of transports, increased information exchange between actors in relevant ecosystems and the development of legislation.

The meeting underlined the importance of looking to the citizens’ needs while developing automated transports in order to increase the societal welfare and to aid in reaching societal goals. The need to strengthen interoperability for necessary information-exchanges was also lifted and identified areas to further develop included the collection, analysis and use of data and the automation of background systems and traffic control.

“European coordination is very important to reap the full impact on sustainability from new technologies, such as connected and automated vehicles, and we appreciate the Finnish government’s efforts to organize the 4th High Level CAD Meeting.” said Jan Hellåker, chairman for Drive Sweden.

“All the main topics covered by this HLM require the very same quadruple-helix interaction that Drive Sweden stands for, and I am proud that our role was recognized by inviting us to contribute to this effort."
